I second that. It's no surprise that in the 2 years Maas came over, 12 RedBlacks are on the roster. Most came via free agency to play on his team. He's got a rep as a player"s coach & may be the brightest offensive mind in the CFL. Even Trestman commented earlier this year how impressed he is with what the Eskimo offence is doing. Adarius stated in 2016 he had never been asked to do as a receiver what Maas asked him to do. It is interesting to watch an Eskimo game. As Climie noted one telecast, the receivers don't look at the QB for the call, they all look at the coach on the sidelines. Climie went on to note that watching a tape of an earlier game the Eskimo offence didn't line up in the same formation twice all game. Small wonder that the Eskimo offence led the league in more than a dozen categories including averaging over 40 yards of net offence more per game than the next best team in the West. This is a very good team & getting younger.

Jason Maas is not only doing the right thing he is doing a smart thing! Intelligently run teams know that building a program inside of a pro football team breeds depth and leads to long term winning. A strong program doesn’t just develop better players, but it also develops better coaches. Depth in coaching and players allows teams to have players and coaches move on with little to no impact to the team. Brock Sunderland and Jason Maas are building a program that has the potential to run successfully for decades.

As players go to other teams (NFL or CFL) they talk about their experience with a team and so do coaches as they bounce from the CFL to college or the NFL or even another CFL team. This talk plays a role in free agency both within the CFL and down south. Young coaches bring innovation and drive, but they also attract players who they recruited in college and want to rejoin their former coach. A good mix of young and experienced coaches is necessary to generate innovation while maintaining a winning tradition.

Garnering a reputation for developing young coaches like Carson Walch and now Kelly Bates, Travis Brown, Rob Payne and Jordan Maksymic, who will be the next OC for the Eskies, will attract someone like Ricky Ray when ready to coach. The depth of protects the Esks if they were to have 3, 4 or even 5 coaches leave. More importantly Maas is building one of strongest coaching regimes that will foster the Eskimo way of unselfish support and development of coaching talent. This will only pay long-term dividends for the Eskimos.

While some believe 13 on the Eskimos is a bit much, they should keep in mind the Eskies have no “consultants” or “guest coaches” whereas the Grey Cup Champions Argo’s have 14 coaches, Saskatchewan have 15 coaches and Montreal have 11 plus Rich Stubler as a consultant. So not only are the Esks in step, but they also have created a competitive advantage. Good on Coach Maas!

Actually you can have too much speed. Cutting and finding holes is more important that blinding speed.
You guys do know that Forest Gump was a fictional character right?
