Veteran CFL defensive lineman Adrian Tracy retires from pro football

Veteran Canadian Football League defensive end Adrian Tracy has retired from professional football.

Tracy tweeted: “33 years, I gave that to the game.” 10 seasons in, STAYED 10 toes down. It’s been real.

The 33-year-old played all five of his CFL seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He signed with the Montreal Alouettes prior to the 2020 season, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tracy recorded 131 tackles, 21 sacks, five forced fumbles, and two interceptions in 58 career games with the Ticats.

“I know with this new chapter I need more guarantees with regards to what it is I’m pursuing. It’s not only about myself now, it’s about my wife, our future children and extended family and some other visions and plans I’ve had since becoming a professional athlete,” Tracy told Canadian Press reporter Dan Ralph.

“I know my wife would support whatever it is I’m going to do but what I realize is I’d rather have things end on my terms as opposed to leaving it up to the powers that be.”

The William & Mary University product was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft pick by the New York Giants. He made 12 tackles, forced two fumbles, and notched on sack over parts of four seasons with the Giants.

Tracy has an NFL championship ring, winning Super Bowl XLVI over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
