Franchise CFL quarterback Mike Reilly and his family are in mourning after the passing of his mother Rhonda.

Reilly had not tweeted in over a year, but took to the social media platform to reveal the unfortunate news.

This morning the world lost a special woman. Rhonda Reilly was truly amazing. There are not enough words to describe how lucky we were to call her mom. This has been the hardest struggle and most severe pain that our family has ever been dealt.

Both of my parents have spent a considerable amount of time in Canada during my playing career, and they alway cherished the many relationships that were created in “our home away from home.” Please keep my mom and the rest of my family in your thoughts and prayers.

The father of Reilly, Pat, paid tribute to his late wife on Twitter.

This morning I lost my best friend, my buddy, and the love of my life. She was the greatest wife and mother anyone ever had. RIP Rhonda, I love you always.

The Reilly’s were regulars at games in Edmonton and BC while their son led the CFL franchises in those respective cities. Rhonda and Pat were there in-person to see Reilly win the 2015 Grey Cup at Investors Group Field. Edmonton defeated Ottawa 26-20 and Reilly made sure to snap a picture with the trophy and his mom as a lasting memory.
