Italy postpones CFL Combine due to COVID-19

The Italian Federation of American Football known in Italy as Federazione Italiana Di American Football has postponed the country’s CFL Global Combine.

It was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 6, however, FIDAF has moved it to three weeks later, Saturday, March 27 due to new COVID-19 restrictions in the country. The event is slated to be hosted at the Modena Vipers in Moden, Italy.

A spokesman for the federation said that the new rules related to the coronavirus pandemic prevent travel between regions over the next few weeks except, it seems, in the case of players who are registered with teams and who are of “national interest”.

After updating protocols concerning intercontinental travel, FIDAF will allow players from Europe provided they follow all the protocols and have undergone a COVID-19 swab test that is negative within 24 hours of arriving. As a result, the registration process will be reopened until March 20.

There are a total of 16 Italian players who have been selected from all of the applications sent in and they will participate in the event to be monitored remotely by CFL representatives.

Players picked from the group will then be eligible for the 2021 Global Draft. All players who attended a 2020 Global Combine will remain draft eligible players for the 2021 Global Draft.
