Ticats aren’t re-signing veteran Canadian offensive lineman Mike Filer

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats won’t be re-signing veteran Canadian offensive lineman Mike Filer.

Hamilton Spectator reporter Steve Milton has reported the Ticats will be moving on without the team’s longest-serving member.

Filer will not be offered a contract, The Spectator has learned, a development which will reverberate emotionally within the organization, Ticat Nation and the broader Hamilton community.

Over his eight-year CFL career with the Ticats from 2012-2019, Filer has appeared in 112 regular season games with 95 starts at centre. The Mount Allison University product has also started nine playoff games at centre for Hamilton, including the 102nd and 107th Grey Cup games.

The 30-year-old Filer made 18 appearances with 16 starts at centre for the Ticats last season. The six-foot-two, 290-pound native of Brantford, Ontario helped anchor an offensive line in 2019 that helped Hamilton post league-leading rankings in offensive points (508) and net offence (7,125 yards) among numerous other categories.

Filer was selected in the fifth round, 31st overall in the 2012 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders.
