Linebacker Avery Williams inks contract extension with Redblacks

The Ottawa Redblacks have re-signed linebacker Avery Williams.

The five-foot-10, 225-pound Williams was limited to 11 games in 2019 due to injuries, managing to record 69 defensive tackles. In 2019, he had his best game during Week 10 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, recording 12 tackles.

Since his debut in the nation’s capital in 2018, Williams has been a key piece of the Redblacks defence. In 28 games over two seasons with Ottawa, the 26-year-old has 112 defensive tackles, seven tackles on the special teams and two sacks.

Williams played his NCAA football at Temple University. He was a part of the 2016 conference championship team and the 2015 team that made an appearance in the conference championship. He finished his career at Temple with 154 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in 47 games played.
