The New Orleans Saints have signed former CFL linebacker Wynton McManis to a futures contract, according to Pro Football Chase

McManis decided to opt out of his CFL contract in August. He worked out for the Saints immediately and signed with the team at the end of training camp. However, he was waived in September.

McManis had a breakout campaign in 2019 with the Calgary Stampeders, starting 15 games, recording 86 defensive tackles, nine special teams’ tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. In his two previous seasons, McManis was a core special teamer and led the league with 25 special teams’ tackles in 2018.

The graduate of the University of Memphis went unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft before signing with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. He earned a spot on the team’s practice roster before being elevated to the active roster in late December. McManis was waived by the 49ers before the 2017 season and made his way to Calgary.

McManis has earned another opportunity with the Saints.
