American linebacker Kyrie Wilson signs contract extension with Bombers

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American linebacker Kyrie Wilson to a two-year contract extension through the 2022 season.

Wilson was scheduled to become a free agent in February.

The six-foot-one, 216-pound Wilson returns to the Bombers for a fourth season after originally signing with the team in 2017.

Wilson started all 18 regular season games and three playoff contests for the Bombers at linebacker in their 2019 Grey Cup year. He finished third on the team in defensive plays made, registering 63 defensive tackles and four special teams tackles along with five pass knockdowns, three fumble recoveries, three tackles for loss, three sacks, and one interception.

The 28-year-old Wilson dressed for six games over the 2017 and 2018 seasons, making his debut in the 2017 Banjo Bowl and then appearing in five games a year later. He was first signed by the Bombers in April of 2017 after being released by the Oakland Raiders in 2016.

Wilson was a three-year starter at Fresno State University. He made 313 total tackles, 182 solo, 18 tackles for loss, defended 11 passes, forced five fumbles, notched five sacks, and intercepted two passes, and scored one defensive touchdown for the Bulldogs.
