Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-sign veteran defensive back Nick Taylor

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed a key piece of its secondary, per sources.

Defensive back Nick Taylor has inked a one-year contract extension with the team through the 2021 CFL season. The 32-year-old was set to become a free agent next month.

The Florida native joined Winnipeg’s practice roster in August 2019 before making his regular season debut in October. He won the starting job at field-side halfback, recording 12 tackles and one pick-six in seven starts, including the playoffs.

The defensive back had previously played with Ottawa (2016-17) and Edmonton (2018-19), making 111 career total tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one sack as a member of those teams.

Winnipeg lost Winston Rose and Marcus Sayles to the NFL last winter, the former of whom remains with the Cincinnati Bengals. Veterans Brandon Alexander, Mercy Maston, and Josh Johnson remains pending free agents, making Taylor a key re-addition to the team’s secondary.
