Canadian linebacker Micah Teitz inks contract extension with Riders

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian linebacker to a one-year contract extension for the 2021 season.

The six-foot-two, 225-pounder was selected by the Riders in the second round, 14th overall during the 2018 CFL Draft. He’s played 27 games and contributed mainly on special teams so far with 18 special teams tackles and six defensive tackles over two CFL seasons.

The 24-year-old started one game at weak-side linebacker in 2019 when star national Cameron Judge was out due to injury. With Judge still unsigned for 2021, Teitz’s return is key for the Riders.

Teitz spent four seasons at his hometown University of Calgary where he made 111 unassisted tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and seven quarterback sacks in 30 games played.

He won back-to-back Hardy Cup titles in 2016 and 2017 and played in the 2017 U Sports East-West Bowl.  The Calgary native was a Canada West all-star in 2015 and 2017 and named U Sports All-Canadian in 2015.
