Former CFL all-star Brandon Zylstra scores first career NFL touchdown

A former member of the Edmonton Football Team scored his first career NFL touchdown on Sunday.

Brandon Zylstra recovered a muffed punt return by Steven Sims Jr. late in the first quarter of his game against Washington. The touchdown put the Panthers ahead by a score of 6-0 as Carolina won 20-13 in the United States capital city.

This wasn’t the first big play that Zylstra has made on special teams this season. He caught a 28-yard pass on a fake punt in November, his longest career NFL reception.

It’s been a quiet season for the 27-year-old on offence, catching three passes on four targets for 35 yards. He has made 12 receptions for 164 yards and one carry for one yard over three NFL seasons (2018-present).

Zylstra led the CFL with 1,687 receiving yards on 100 receptions in 2017. He also scored five touchdowns en route to being named a league all-star.
