Harris signed in Edmonton as a free agent in February 2019 following a three-year stint with the Ottawa Redblacks. He made 13 starts in his first season with the team, completing 343-of-478 passes for 4,027 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He set two new CFL playoff records in the 2019 East Semi-Final, completing 22 consecutive passes and 92.3 percent of his throws.

“Trevor approached me about restructuring his contract for the better of the team,” said general manager Brock Sunderland. “He is the consummate team player and has done this throughout his career, as he is always looking for ways to help the organization and his teammates out.”

Sunderland also hinted that restructuring Harris’ contract will allow the team to start re-signing their pending free agents. Key players who are set to become free agents in February 2021 include Almondo Sewell, Greg Ellingson, Kwaku Boateng, and Matt O’Donnell.

“Knowing what dollar amount he’d be at allows us to start planning accordingly for the rest of the team,” he said. “We’re very fortunate to have a player like Trevor whose character and team first attitude is even better than his outstanding play on the field.”

The six-foot-three, 215-pound passer has thrown for 22,182 yards, 120 touchdowns, and 52 interceptions over eight CFL seasons as a member of Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton. He will turn 35 in May.
