Alouettes to sign quarterback Matthew Shiltz to contract extension

The Montreal Alouettes have agreed to a contract extension with quarterback Matthew Shiltz, according to TSN reporter Farhan Lalji.

Shiltz has played all three of his CFL seasons in Montreal. The 28-year-old has played 39 games, completing 96-of-159 pass attempts for 1,106 yards with five touchdowns and nine interceptions. He’s rushed 32 times for 228 yards and one touchdown.

After a standout high school career, Shiltz earned a scholarship to Butler University where he played 17 games during his final two seasons. He completed 58.7 per cent of his passes for 4,037 yards, 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while rushing for 857 yards and 13 touchdowns.

After going unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft, Shiltz started working for Ernst & Young in Indianapolis. One year later, the Alouettes invited him to workout. He also had sessions with the Ottawa Redblacks and Calgary Stampeders prior to inking a deal with Montreal in 2017.
