CFL all-star receiver Shaq Evans shovelling snow in Regina a ‘good sign’ for Riders’ Cody Fajardo

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ franchise quarterback Cody Fajardo knows how to anticipate what might come next.

Fajardo saw the recent video of CFL all-star receiver Shaq Evans in the Queen City clearing white stuff off a driveway.

“I saw he’s back in Regina shovelling some snow. If he’s there that’s a good sign for us Rider fans, including myself,” Fajardo said on 620 CKRM’s The SportsCage.

After signing a one-year extension for the 2020 season, which was cancelled due COVID-19, Evans is a pending free agent in February 2021. Evans used the same detailed approach he brings to the football field while ensuring the snow removal was done properly.

“He’s one of those guys that’s very meticulous about everything he does. The coaches will draw up the plays for us and he’ll talk about how the line is drawn — ‘this line doesn’t make any sense,'” Fajardo explained.

“Usually the coach would be like, ‘Well, Shaq we couldn’t get it to scale, this is just an idea.’ He’s like, ‘Well I’m just looking at the picture.’ It’s always funny in the meetings because that’s how meticulous he is about his attention to detail, which I love as a quarterback.”

Evans recorded 72 catches for a team-leading 1,334 yards and five touchdowns during the 2019 season.  He led the CFL with 15 catches of 30 yards or more and averaged 18.5 yards per reception in 2019, which topped all qualified players.

“I know exactly where Shaq’s going to be every single time because we go through it and he is just on point with the details,” Fajardo said.

Fajardo and Evans could be a dynamic tandem in Riderville for years to come.
