B.C. Lions’ president Rick LeLacheur won’t be hiring a new general manager.

Former GM Ed Hervey stepped down from the position in October. That left a major decision to make for LeLacheur as to how the Lions were going to proceed in the team’s football operations department.

“We’re not going to fill it as a position. I’m quite comfortable with Rick Campbell and Neil McEvoy as the co-general managers, they’re working very well together,” LeLacheur said on TSN 1040 radio in Vancouver.

“We’ll continue that way. We have a full roster right now that was booked to come to training camp in 2020. It’ll in all likelihood be tweaked a bit before we get to camp in the spring.”

Current scouting director and franchise legend Geroy Simon was eyeing the GM role. The 45-year-old Simon has been in the Leos’ front office since 2015 procuring talent for the Lions on both sides of Canadian-United States border. However, barring unforeseen changes, Simon won’t be promoted.

“Both Rick and Neil are very seasoned veterans and I have full confidence that them working together we can get the job done,” LeLacheur said.

“We’re going to do all we can to make sure that we have an exciting product and a winning product.”

LeLacheur isn’t concerned about the management of the organization. Even though there is a league-wide moratorium preventing teams from signing players, the Lions are scouting and planning for roster moves in 2021.
