London, Ont. native RB Chase Brown has another big day for Illinois

Chuba Hubbard isn’t the only Canadian running back making waves in the NCAA.

Chase Brown had a big game with Illinois on Saturday, making 26 carries for 110 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded one reception for 12 yards.

Illinois got off to a poor start to the season, dropping three straight games to Wisconsin, Purdue, and Minnesota by a combined score of 117-45. They beat Rutgers 23-20 last week before trouncing Nebraska on the road by a score of 41-23.

Brown was one of the team’s bright spots in its win over the Scarlet Knights. He rushed for a career-high 131 yards on 17 carries with a long of 39, but was unable to find the end zone. That changed this week when he managed to score twice against the Cornhuskers.

The native of London, Ont. is currently in his redshirt sophomore season, meaning he is on track to be a member of the 2023 CFL draft class.

Brown originally committed to Western Michigan where he rushed 71 times for 352 yards before transferring to Illinois last year. He now has 61 carries for 357 yards and two touchdowns in 2020.

Football runs in Brown’s blood. His twin brother, Sydney, plays defensive back at Illinois while his father, Darren Isaac, played three seasons in the CFL.
