Seahawks release Canadian tight end Luke Willson

The Seattle Seahawks have released Canadian tight end Luke Willson, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Willson signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks in March.

Seattle drafted the Rice University product in the fifth round, 15th overall in 2013. A year earlier the Toronto Argonauts picked Wilson in the fifth round, 32nd overall during the CFL draft.

The 30-year-old has 110 career catches for 1,295 yards with 11 touchdowns in 99 games through eight seasons, seven with the Seahawks. He has 13 catches for 154 yards and one score in the playoffs, including two receptions when Seattle routed Denver in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Willson spent the 2018 season playing for the Detroit Lions. He grew up in LaSalle, Ontario which is a 30-minute drive across the border from Ford Field where the Lions play their home games. After spending the 2019 off-season and training camp with the Oakland Raiders, Willson rejoined Seattle following the birds trading Nick Vannett to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Willson has played over 2,800 snaps and made more than $9.8 million so far in his NFL career.
