Canadian safety Alonzo Addae may have been the No. 11 player on 3DownNation’s top 25 2021 CFL/NFL Draft prospects list, but during his NCAA FBS debut the West Virginia Mountaineer is proving he might be vastly underrated.
The native of Pickering, Ont. sat out his entire junior season after transferring from FCS University of New Hampshire in 2019. Named a starting safety for the Mountaineers’ season-opener against Eastern Kentucky, Addae proved he shouldn’t be forgotten with a mind-blowing diving interception towards the end of the second quarter that will make highlight reels across North America.

Addae’s cross field heroics weren’t his first big play of the day. He began the contest with a bone-crushing special team’s hit that got viewers everywhere excited.

It’s clear that the year off has not caused the athletic defensive back to lose a step. In a 56-10 blowout victory by West Virginia, Addae had seven tackles, one pass break-up and one interception. While fellow Canadian Akheem Mesidor of Ottawa also made an impact. The true freshman defensive end recorded his first career sack in clean-up action, as well as two tackles.

CFL and NFL scouts should take notice of both talented Canadians. Addae and Mesidor have the ability to provide impact plays for WVU through the 2020 season.
