Buffalo Bills add former CFL all-star receiver Duke Williams to practice squad

The Buffalo Bills have added former CFL all-star receiver Duke Williams to their 16-man practice squad.

Williams was waived on Saturday, the NFL’s 53-man active roster cutdown day, and went through uncliamed. That allowed the Bills to keep Williams in Buffalo.

Williams had 12 catches for 166 yards and one touchdown — a game-winning TD in his NFL debut – last season with the Bills. He made six receptions for 108 yards in Buffalo’s regular season-ending 13-6 loss to the New York Jets.

The 27-year-old played his first season in the NFL with the Bills a year ago. He started the year on the practice squad and earned his way to game action in October. A shoulder injury caused Williams to miss a chunk of the season, but he was healthy by the end.

The spot in Buffalo was earned in Western New York following a consistently strong training camp and pre-season performance from Williams in 2019. He grabbed the attention of Buffalo’s young, up-and-coming franchise quarterback Josh Allen.

Williams caught 88 passes during the 2018 CFL season for a league-leading 1,579 yards and 11 touchdowns. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, Williams provides a big frame and adds a physical presence to the Bill’s receiving core.

Once again Williams will have to work his way onto the active roster and game reps.
