Bombers’ Global DL Thiadric Hansen signs with Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers

Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ global defensive end Thiadric Hansen has signed with the Wroclaw Panthers of Poland’s Liga Futbolu Amerykanskiego.

The LFA’s post-pandemic lockdown season kicks-off September 5, six teams are slated to play a seven-week schedule with the championship set for November 7. The Panthers are defending LFA champions.

Hansen was the crown jewel of Randy Ambrosie’s CFL 2.0 initiative. The 27-year old German was selected second overall in the 2019 CFL European Draft out of the German Football League.

He converted from linebacker to defensive end and grew into a key rotational piece on a crowded defensive line by the end of the season. Hansen suited up in every Bombers game recording five tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles in limited playtime. He is best remembered for a thunderous highlight reel hit on special teams in the 2019 Grey Cup, which helped spark Winnipeg to victory.

Prior to playing in Canada, Hansen spent six seasons with the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in the GFL before signing to play with the Potsdam Royals. From 2012 to 2018, he recorded 527 tackles plus 62 tackles for loss, leading the team in tackles from 2016 to 2018.

Hansen opted out of his CFL contract to seek and find employment in Europe.
