No announcement from CFL regarding fate of 2020 season anticipated on Friday, July 31: report

The Canadian Football League’s moving target deadline for deciding whether to proceed or punt on a 2020 season, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, appears to still be unknown.

Originally the CFL’s self-imposed timeline was Thursday, July 23, it was bumped to Friday, July 24, and again to Friday, July 31. However, don’t expect anything definitive from the league as the calendar turns to August.

TSN reporter Dave Naylor stated on TwitterI do not anticipate anything being announced by the CFL on Friday.

Winnipeg has tentatively been chosen as the hub city even though there is no definitive word from the Canadian government regarding potential financial aid or an agreement on a COVID-19 collective bargaining agreement with the CFL Players’ Association. It’s clear the two sides remain far apart with the 2020 schedule on the line.

The only thing certain about the potential for CFL games to be played this year is the uncertainty surrounding the three-down league.
