Redblacks to embed silver dollar under TD Place turf

The Ottawa Redblacks are carrying on tradition.

With the turf at TD Place currently being replaced, the Redblacks will ensure one important detail is taken care of Tuesday afternoon.

The Redblacks are embedding a 2016 silver dollar in the sub-surface of the field to channel the Grey Cup karma of the 2016 championship team to all future editions.

The idea for goes back to 2014 when, prior to the start of the Redblacks first season, a 1976 silver dollar was set into the sub-surface to radiate good luck from the Ottawa Rough Riders, which, at the time, was the last Ottawa team to win a Grey Cup.

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group is replacing the six-year-old existing turf at the stadium, and installing FieldTurf Core. It’s a state-of-the-art playing surface engineered to provide athletes with a more grass-like feel to help enhance performance, with optimal durability, resiliency and shock absorbency.

FieldTurf supplied the current playing surface at TD Place. It was installed in 2014 prior to the start of the Redblacks season.
