LSU head coach Ed Orgeron trying to lure Canadian DL Tavius Robinson away from Ole Miss

The reigning NCAA National Champions are trying to lure Canadian defensive lineman Tavius Robinson to the Bayou.

Robinson has verbally committed to Ole Miss, however, following the announcement, Louisiana State University head coach Ed Orgeron has been going hard after the six-foot-eight, 250-pound ultra athletic defender.

The 21-year-old Guelph, Ontario native runs in the 4.60 40-yard range with a 35-plus inch vertical. During two seasons at the University of Guelph, Robinson made 65 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss 12.5 sacks, forced one fumble and recovered another.

Robinson has a focused and stated goal to play in the NFL. It’s one of the main reasons he was drawn to Ole Miss because the SEC produces the highest number of NFL players by far of any NCAA conference. The SEC led all conferences in NFL draft picks for the 14th consecutive year in 2020 with 63 selections.

Orgeron and his LSU Tigers went 15-0 last season and won the College Football Playoff National Championship in convincing fashion over Clemson University 42-25. Quarterback Joe Burrow captured the Heisman Trophy and became the No. 1 overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. A record-tying 14 LSU products were been selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, matching Ohio State University for the most picks in a single talent grab.

That’s the pull Orgeron is using: come to Baton Rouge and his staff will turn Robinson into a surefire NFL selection. Defensive coordinator Bo Pelini and defensive line coach Bill Johnson have extensive NFL coaching experience on their respective resumes. Johnson joined LSU for the 2019 season after two years with the Los Angeles Rams coaching the likes of two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Aaron Donald.

The 58-year-old Orgeron was drawn to the quickness and length Robinson possesses, including rare seven-foot wingspan. And considering the way the University of Mississippi dismissed Orgeron as head coach in November 2007, he would enjoy securing Robinson’s scholarship signature.
