General managers agree to keep CFL draft on schedule for April 30

The Canadian Football League general managers had their say and agreed to keep the CFL draft on schedule for April 30.

Commissioner Randy Ambrosie cancelled the CFL combines during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Ontario regional took place just prior to the decision, so there are one group of prospects who have standardized testing numbers. Other athletes who were scheduled to be at the Eastern, Western and National combines missed out on the opportunity to have scouts do their own evaluation.

CFL training camps are currently scheduled to open May 17 with regular season kick-off set for June 11. It’s a fluid situation, however, draft choices, agents and front office executives need time to sign contracts after being selected by their new teams. There was agreement across the CFL at multiple levels to proceed with the Canadian draft as planned.
