A key part of the Houston Roughnecks’ success was the stellar play of Walker — the Redblacks own his CFL rights. Walker threw for an XFL-leading 1,338 yards with 15 touchdowns against four interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes and leading Houston to a perfect 5-0 record prior to the XFL cancelling the 2020 season.
XFL players are able to ink deals with NFL or CFL teams on Monday, March 23. Originally the agreements with XFL teams were scheduled to run through May 31. The XFL kicked off in February and played five weeks of a planned 10-week schedule until the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Carolina’s Matt Rhule coached Walker at Temple. This past XFL season Walker shared with us that Rhule stayed in contact with him weekly and watched his games. #Panthers

Walker would have been a welcome addition to the Redblacks quarterback room, however, his high calibre play in the XFL earned him a second NFL opportunity.
