Former Calgary Stampeders linebacker Jameer Thurman scored an interception touchdown for the Xtreme Football League’s D.C. Defenders on Saturday.
The Defenders shut out New York 27-0 in Week two of XFL action.
After going unselected in the 2017 NFL draft, Thurman played two seasons with the Stamps making 134 tackles, 29 special teams stops, three sacks, three interceptions and forced three fumbles in 35 games. He was part of the Stamps’ 2018 Grey Cup championship team.
His performance in the CFL drew the attention of NFL teams as eight franchises worked Thurman out in December 2018. The Chicago Bears singed Thurman in January 2019. He made 15 tackles in four pre-season games, however, Chicago released Thurman among the final training camp cuts.
The Defenders chose Thurman in the XFL draft and their investment is paying dividends.
