CFL defensive back Anthony Cioffi works out for New York Jets

Canadian Football League defensive back Anthony Cioffi worked out for the New York Jets Thursday.

According to New York Post reporter, Ryan Dunleavy the Jets could sign Cioffi ‘if all checks out’.

Cioffi spent the last two seasons playing for the Ottawa Redblacks. He suited up in 33 games making 97 tackles, 13 special teams stops, four sacks, forced three fumbles, grabbed two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.

The 25-year-old Cioffi went unselected during the 2017 NFL draft. He signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders, but the silver and black released him among the final training camp cuts.

Cioffi was a four-year starter at Rutgers University registering 169 total tackles, 13 defended passes, 9.5 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, forced three fumbles and recovered two fumbles. During the Scarlet Knights pro day in 2017, Cioffi ran a 4.39 40-yard time. The speed and athletic ability combined with strong CFL film has captured the attention of NFL talent evaluators.
