The Ottawa Redblacks have signed linebacker Avery Williams to a one-year contract extension through the 2020 season.

Since his debut in the nation’s capital in 2018, Williams has been a large piece of the Redblacks defence. While only dressing for 11 games last season due to injuries, he still managed to record 69 tackles. In 2019, Williams had his best game during Week 10 against the Ticats, recording 12 tackles.

“Avery is the type of player you want to build a fast, physical and dominant defence around,” defensive coordinator Mike Benevides said. “He’s a guy who has barely scratched the surface of his potential and I’m excited to start working with him.”
