Philadelphia Eagles part ways with former CFL offensive coordinator Carson Walch

The Philadelphia Eagles are moving on from receivers coach Carson Walch.

Eagles expected to part ways today with OC Mike Groh and WR Carson Walch, league sources tell @mortreport and me.

During his first season with Philadelphia in 2018, Walch worked with a unit that featured veteran receivers Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor. Under Walch’s direction, Jeffery recorded his highest receiving yardage (843) and reception total (65) in a single season since 2014, despite missing the first three games of the regular season. Agholor recorded career highs in receptions (64) and yards after the catch (350).

Jeffery, Agholor and DeSean Jackson all dealt with injuries in 2019 as Walch tried to get the most out of an inexperienced receiving core with the veterans sidelined. Tight ends Zach Ertz (916) and Dallas Goedert (607) were one-two on the Eagles in receiving yards with running back Miles Sanders (509) third due to the missed time by the top targets on the outside.

The Winona State All-American, all-region and all-conference running back, receiver and return specialist from 1996-1999 earned a job at his alma mater to begin his coaching career. He came to the CFL in 2010 under Marc Trestman then joined Trestman as an assistant with the Chicago Bears in 2013 and 2014. Mike Groh, who was the receivers coach in Chicago under Trestman, brought Walch with him to Philly, but he’s been let go by the Eagles as well.

“It was not an easy decision for me to make and I appreciate everything that Mike Groh and Carson Walch contributed to the organization and to my staff. They were a big part of our success down the stretch this past season,” Pederson said.

“This is one of the most difficult parts of the job and something that weighs on me, but ultimately I have to make decisions that I believe are in the best interest of the football team moving forward.”

Walch spent two seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos as offensive coordinator and receivers coach (2017) and receivers coach plus passing game coordinator (2016).
