Versatile defensive back Brian Walker extends contract with the Eskimos

The Edmonton Eskimos have signed defensive back Brian Walker to a three-year contract extension through the 2022 season.

He was set to become a free agent in February.

Walker originally signed in Edmonton on July 4, 2018. In 14 games, nine starts, in 2019, he finished with 25 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, two quarterback sacks, and one interception while playing the cornerback, half back and strong-side linebacker positions.

The Charlotte, North Carolina native initially began his CFL career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2017 recording 41 tackles, one interception and forcing one fumble. Walker attended the University of North Carolina from 2013 to 2015 where he appeared in 28 games. He recorded 71 total tackles, four interceptions – returned one for a touchdown, 16 pass break-ups and one forced fumble.

For his senior NCAA season, Walker transferred to Fayetteville State for the 2016 season where he appeared in nine games. He recorded 25 total tackles, nine pass break-ups, two interceptions and also returned 11 kickoffs for 373 yards and two touchdowns – including a 99-yard touchdown.

The five-foot-nine, 184-pound Walker has developed into a versatile defender in the secondary.
