CFL ousts Patrick Boivin as Alouettes president

The CFL announced that Patrick Boivin is no longer the president and chief executive officer of the Montreal Alouettes.

The CFL thanked Boivin for his contribution and wished him every success in his future endeavours. David Goldstein, the league’s chief operating officer, will serve the club in this role on an interim basis until a new president and CEO is put in place in Montreal.

Boivin failed to fill the vacant general manager role. Candidates including Hamilton’s Sean Burke, Winnipeg’s Danny McManus and Ryan Rigmaiden were interviewed, but each man said thanks, but no thanks. That led to the Als going back to the drawing board — at the CFL’s request — and suspend their search for the next GM in La Belle Province.

Montreal has been without a full-time general manager since Kavis Reed was fired in July — the league wanted Reed dispatched for months. Joe Mack finished the season on an interim basis while Khari Jones led the club to a 10-8 record and its first post-season berth since 2014.

The CFL has been operating the Alouettes franchise during a process to identify and put in place new ownership.
