Phillip Lolley resigns as Eskimos defensive coordinator

Eskimos defensive coordinator Phillip Lolley has resigned due to personal reasons with a year left — the 2020 season — on his contract.

Lolley first joined the Esks in 2014 as linebackers coach. The following season, he was a member of Edmonton’s Grey Cup champion coaching staff in the same capacity. The 65-year-old retuned to the Esks last season as defensive coordinator.

Lolley took over the Eskimos defence after Mike Benevides wasn’t retained following two seasons. He spent time with Edmonton under Chris Jones in 2014 and 2015 before joining him in Saskatchewan the following year. For the 2017 season, Lolley moved to Hamilton as linebackers coach and was given the defensive coordinaotor role after the Ticats’ dreadful 0-6 start.
