Calgary Stampeders Canadian punter Rob Maver retires

One of the longest serving players in Calgary is hanging up his cleats.

Drafted fifth overall as a field goal kicker in the 2010 draft, Rob Maver played 145 games in Calgary over the last 10 seasons making it to the Grey Cup five times, winning twice.

In his only season as the Stampeders field goal kicker, he led the league in scoring with 185 points before a season ending injury in his second year opened the door for Rene Paredes, moving Maver to punt.

A three-time West Division all-star and two time CFL all-star, Maver was one of the league’s best at pinning his opponents inside their own 10-yard line.

He is also the most recent winner of the Tom Pate award, given by the CFLPA, for sportsmanship and dedication to his club and community.

He has also won the Herm Harrison Award in Calgary the past two seasons for outstanding community involvement. The University of Guelph product has helped raise more than $75,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
