Taylor Loffler to return for 2020 season following third ACL surgery

The CFL’s best mullet isn’t ready to call it quits.

Montreal Alouettes’ defensive back Taylor Loffler plans to return for the 2020 season after suffering a torn left ACL in August, per sources.

The 27-year-old briefly retired after twice tearing the ACL in his right knee. He returned to football with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in 2015 and went on to be drafted in the third round of the 2016 CFL draft by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Loffler appeared in 50 games over three seasons in Winnipeg, making 185 tackles, eight interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and one sack. He was named a CFL all-star in each of those seasons.

The six-foot-four, 225-pound safety signed a two-year contract with Montreal in February of 2019. He appeared in six games for the Alouettes this season, recording 27 tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.

Montreal is a team on the rise and Loffler will be back in 2020 as a key part of the team’s young Canadian core.
