Current Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive coordinator Paul LaPolice ranks high on the B.C. Lions head coach candidate list, according to TSN 1040’s Rick Dhaliwal.
LaPolice directed the league’s highest-scoring offence in Winnipeg during 2017 (554) and 2018 (550). He has been credited for designing a quarterback-friendly offence that prioritizes ball control and balance between the air and ground attacks.
Winnipeg’s offensive play caller coached his unit to another strong season in 2019, leading the West Division in points per game (28.2) and topped the league in rushing yards per game (147.9). LaPolice has a reputation for being one of the CFL’s best coaches in the areas of game planning and calling plays.
The 49-year-old served as the head coach for the Bombers from 2010-2012, producing a 16-28 win-loss record and leading the team to a Grey Cup appearance in 2011. LaPolice has been hungry for a second head coaching opportunity having interviewed for a number of positions over the past three off-seasons.
When Winnipeg’s season comes to an end, expect the Lions to come calling.
