Bombers talked to Drew Willy about returning but that didn’t work out so Kevin Anderson, who was in the teams rookie camp, will be brought back to be number three.

Montreal released Willy in December 2018 and he’s been a free agent ever since. The 32-year-old spent parts of two season with the Alouettes playing 10 games.

After Willy suffered a gash on his hand in Week 6 against the Calgary Stampeders the Als traded for Johnny Manziel the next day on July 22 and the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner took over the starting quarterback job.

The University of Buffalo product began his CFL career with Saskatchewan in 2012 and he was traded to Winnipeg on February 2014. Willy made 28 starts for the Bombers over those three seasons (2014, 2015 and 2016) completing 513-of-781 passes (65.7 per cent) for 6,385 yards, 31 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

He was acquired by the Argos via trade in September 2016 with the Bombers. Willy played in four games completing 77-of-113 passes for 681 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Toronto. He didn’t even dress in the Argos final pre-season game in 2017 and was released.
