Kicker Brett Lauther ready for return to the Riders

Kicker Brett Lauther has been rehabbing and recovering for rejoining the Riders.

Lauther has been out since Week 3 dealing with groin and hip ailments.

“Wouldn’t say I’m 100 per cent, but I feel like I can contribute to the team, so that’s why I’m back,” Lauther said.

“It actually happened in Week 1 in Hamilton and I tried to play two games with it and it just kept getting worse and worse and worse. It got to the point where I couldn’t do anything at all.”

The 28-year-old made 7-of-8 field goals during the first three weeks of the season, including a 57-yard three pointer against Ottawa. And the last time suiting up, Lauther connected on all four of his attempts versus Toronto.

“I felt like I’d be back a long time ago, it got worse, it got better, up and down with different things. It was really frustrating,” Lauther said. “Everything from a kicking standpoint I feel good.”

He hit on 54-of-60 field-goal attempts (90 per cent) including a long of 56 yards for the Riders in 2018. For those efforts, Lauther was named a West Division all-star while earning Saskatchewan’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards.
