Former Canadian DL Daryl Waud signs with National Lacrosse League team

Waud has inked a deal with the National Lacrosse League’s Philadelphia Wings. The first sport Waud played as a child was lacrosse, coming up through the Peterborough Lakers program.

“I still have a love for lacrosse and I miss it,” Waud told The Peterborough Examiner recently.

“I watch some of the NLL games and all the top guys in the league now are guys I played with or against. That’s amazing and great for them but just a few years ago I was competing with these guys. I still have that competitive drive to play a high level of sport.”

The 25-year-old played four seasons in the CFL for Toronto and Ottawa making 21 tackles and three sacks in 31 games. He was drafted by the Argos in the second round, 12th overall during the 2015 CFL draft. When Waud was coming out of Western University as a three-time USports All-Canadian, he signed a contract with the Washington Redskins, however, elected to voluntarily leave the team and sign with the Argonauts.

It’s a rare switch – defensive lineman to lacrosse sniper – but Waud is making the transition.
