Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell is crossing his fingers for Dominique Davis to be back in the starting lineup at quarterback when his team travels to Montreal in Week 8.

“Very hopeful that he’s going to play. If he’s good to go, he’ll be the guy. He looks OK running around with our athletic therapist. If he is good to go and can make it through the week then he’d be the guy,” Campbell said on TSN 1200 radio in Ottawa.

Davis was injured during Ottawa’s 36-19 loss to the Alouettes in Week 5. During three out of four starts overall, Davis has thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes. Through four starts Davis has completed 66 per cent of his passes for 1,132 yards with three majors versus seven interceptions plus 15 carries for 76 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

“Barring any setbacks, I should be good to go,” Davis said on TSN radio 1200 in Ottawa. “It was a lower leg injury. It happened the last play of the game versus Montreal.”

Jonathon Jennings started in place of Davis against Winnipeg in Week 6 and Calgary during Week 7. For his first outing Jennings completed 6-of-15 passes for 45 yards and one interception which was returned for a touchdown in a 31-1 defeat. Versus the Stampeders, Jennings hit on 15-of-18 attempts for 125 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a 17-16 defeat. Jennings is 0-2 as a starter with the Redblacks.

Ottawa has lost four straight games after opening the season with a pair of wins, dropping their record to 2-4. The Redblacks must get better QB play and Davis could help to that end.
