Lions steal Canadian OL Jean-Simon Roy from Edmonton’s practice roster

Ed Hervey has no qualms about breaking unwritten rules to help his team.

The Lions general manager has taken Canadian offensive lineman Jean-Simon Roy from the Edmonton Eskimos practice squad and signed him to the B.C.’s active roster.

Roy was selected by Edmonton in the second round, 14^thoverall during the 2017 CFL draft. He played in three games the last two seasons.

There are two ways a team can protect a practice roster player such as Roy. The first is activating him for at least two games. The second would be for the player to decline going to the team who tries to claim them.

In the case of Roy, he decided to join the Lions. But the way in which B.C. acquired the national o-lineman might anger Edmonton or other CFL teams. There are some personnel men who believe poaching practice roster players is faux pas, but there is no rule against it.
