The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian defensive back Anthony Thompson to a one-year contract through the 2019 season, per sources.
Thompson has played 54 CFL games, making 36 starts while registering 80 tackles, eight on special teams, three interceptions and one forced fumble.
The 29-year-old was selected by the Lions in the second round, 12th overall in the 2016 CFL draft.

The Montreal native was a standout for Vanier College earning an NCAA scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles. After redshirting in 2011, Thompson transferred to Southern Illinois where he spent four seasons with the Salukis. Thompson played 46 games, 13 starts, eight of those coming in his senior season as the speedy defender made a team-high 55 tackles and defended four passes.
Thompson has turned into a reliable national starter on the backend.
