Ticats cut Canadian receiver Shamawd Chambers

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released receiver Shamawd Chambers

He missed the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL, the second major knee injury of his career, but was fully healthy for 2019 training camp.

Chambers made 28 catches for 279 yards in seven games for the Ticats during the 2017 campaign after coming over in a trade with Edmonton. The Eskimos received a seventh-round pick in the 2018 CFL draft and a 2019 fifth-round selection for Chambers. The 30-year-old pass target played in six of the Eskimos 12 games that same year, making four receptions for 40 yards.

The Markham native won a Grey Cup with Edmonton in 2015, earning Most Valuable Canadian honours. He Chambers was drafted in the first round, sixth overall by Edmonton in the 2012 CFL draft.

Through seven CFL seasons, Chambers has registered 169 receptions for 1,822 yards and eight touchdowns. He still has the size six-foot-three and speed (4.42 40-yard dash at the 2012 CFL combine) to be able to contribute as a starter in the three-down league.
