B.C. Lions sign OL Brett Boyko, who could be really really good

Sometimes patience pays off and sometimes it nets you a stud offensive lineman.

The B.C. Lions announced the signing of Brett Boyko on Wednesday night, their 2015 second round draft pick. Boyko was a top-rated prospect in his CFL class but fell to the Lions because of well-founded concerns over his NFL opportunities.

The 6-foot-7, 301 pounder signed a two-year deal.

Though he went unselected in the NFL Draft, Boyko spent parts of four seasons with the Eagles and Chargers, mostly on practice squads. He played in one regular-season contest in 2017.

Boyko, who is still just 26, signed with the San Diego Fleet of the now-defunct AAF.

“Good things come to those who wait and Brett has very definitely been worth the wait,” said GM Ed Hervey in a statement. “If he had been in this year’s draft, there isn’t a team that wouldn’t have taken him first overall, so we’re very happy to be adding him in time for camp and even more pleased that he has committed to this length of contract.”
