Riders release RB Tre Mason

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have released running back Tre Mason.

Mason suffered a major knee injury in the team’s final game last season.

“Tre actually had an ACL in the last game so he had surgery on the ACL and he’s going to miss the majority of the season,” general manager Jeremy O’Day said in February.

Mason ran for 809 yards and three touchdowns while catching 21 balls for 103 yards during the 2018 season, his first in the CFL.

Mason was a third round pick, 75th overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Rams running for 972 yards and five touchdowns on 254 attempts to go along with 34 receptions for 236 yards and on touchdown.

Mason provided a strong presence in backfield for Saskatchewan, but missing the calendar year combined with the signing of William Powell meant the Riders moving on from the 25-year-old back.
