Mathews worked out for the Patriots, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers after the CFL season ended. He signed with New England in January.
The 26-year-old played 17 regular season games and two more in the playoffs for the Ticats at right tackle in 2018. The six-foot-six, 320-pound Matthews spent two seasons in Hamilton suiting up in 26 regular season contests.
Mathews went unselected in the 2016 NFL draft but the New Orleans Saints signed him to an undrafted free agent contract. After he was placed on injured reserve the Saints released Mathews that September.
