One of the top CFL prospects just decided to retire

According to a report from Radio-Canada journalist Guillaume Piedboeuf, Laval tight end Alex Savard is retiring instead of pursuing a pro career.

“Savard has often been bothered by injuries. This winter a concussion had shortened his time at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, then a hamstring injury had robbed him of his Pro Day.”

Savard was the 20th ranked prospect in the last edition of the CFL’s scouting bureau and was No. 7 in December.

According to Piedboeuf’s story, Savard suffered two concussions in the last year, including one last January in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. He also missed his Pro Day last month because of a hamstring injury.

Savard put up massive testing numbers at the 2018 East-West Bowl and was compared favourably to another Laval tight end, Antony Auclair of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
