Former CFL running back facing murder charges in death of five-year-old child

Former CFL player Cierre Wood is facing charges of child abuse, child neglect and first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s five-year-old daughter, multiple media outlets are reporting.

Wood, 28, was arrested early Wednesday at a hospital in Las Vegas after the death of La-Rayah Davis on Tuesday night. Woods’ girlfriend, 25-year-old Amy Taylor, also was arrested. Wood is currently being held without bail.

Wood signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on March 9, 2017 and was dealt to the Alouettes the following May. He signed with the Bombers in April of last season and was released on May 1.

Wood played three seasons for Notre Dame, playing in the BCS National Championship Game in 2013. Wood appeared in five NFL games, spending time with the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens.
