Former CFL commish Jeffrey Orridge named chairman of Canadian esports company

Former CFL commissioner Jeffrey Orridge has been named chairman of Tiidal Gaming, a Canadian esports company.

“I look forward to bringing my playbook to help Tiidal Gaming become a global leader in this burgeoning industry,” Orridge said in a statement.

Orridge was hired as CFL commish in April, 2015 and underwent two tumultuous years on the job. The league’s feud with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport led the CFL to go without drug testing for more than a year while his comments denying a conclusive link between playing in the CFL and developing Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) led to widespread criticism.

The board of governors of the CFL and Orridge agreed to part ways with the effective date of June 30, 2017.

“Jeffrey Orridge is one of Canada’s most accomplished sports executives and we could not be more pleased and excited to have him join the Tiidal team,” Charlie Watson, CEO of Tiidal Gaming, said in a statement. “Jeff’s history speaks for itself.”
