Riders sign DL Micah Johnson and make him the highest paid defensive player in the CFL

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed defensive lineman Micah Johnson on a one-year contract worth $250,000, per sources.

Johnson becomes the highest paid defensive player in the CFL. He was a CFL all-star in 2018 after making 14 sacks, second most in the league. The 30-year-old is the most disruptive force in the league. Through six seasons in Calgary, Johnson recorded 158 tackles, 41 sacks, six forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Johnson turned down more than $200,000 from Calgary to hit the open market. Ottawa was in the mix for the elite-level interior defensive lineman.
