Explosive Canadian receiver Tevaun Smith signs with Eskimos

Canadian receiver Tevaun Smith has signed a two-year contract with the Edmonton Eskimos, per sources.

The deal includes an NFL option window after the 2019 season.

Smith flew to Edmonton and met with Eskimos last week.

Smith was selected in the first round, eighth overall by the Eskimos during the 2016 CFL draft. But the speedy pass catcher inked an undrafted free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts and has played in two NFL games.

But the 26-year-old was waived with an injury settlement from the Colts in 2017. The Oakland Raiders signed Smith briefly in 2017 and the Jacksonville had him for a stint in 2018.

There is NFL interest in Smith, but he is currently a free agent and the Eskimos hold his CFL rights. Smith has ratio-breaking ability and would serve as an intriguing weapon for the Eskimos as they try and entice Mike Reilly to stay in Edmonton.

After a four-year career at the University of Iowa where Smith made 102 receptions for 1,500 yards and seven touchdowns, the fast receiver posted blistering times at his Iowa Pro Day.

Smith checks in at six-foot-two, 197 pounds with game-changing explosiveness.
